Selection Process Begins for Grants

A committee will begin the process of selecting nonprofit, tourism-related organizations for grants funded by the city’s lodging tax that previously was distributed to Wonders of Wildlife.

A mandatory meeting for those who wish to apply is set for 5:30 p.m. May 8 at The Creamery Arts Center and letters of intent are due June 2. On June 20, the committee will contact organizations that will be invited to submit a full application due on Aug. 1.

In 2013, the following grants were issued:

  • Discovery Center of Springfield, $22,500 for a new exhibition enhancement called “Bed of Nails.”

  • Springfield Art Museum, $27,351 for HVAC and climate control improvements.
